Te Matatini National Kapa Haka Festival 2011

Te Matatini is the world's largest celebration of Māori Performing Arts. Kapa Haka groups from all over New Zealand and Australia compete for the "best of the best" crown, in the traditional performance disciplines of haka, poi and waiata.

Where: Waiohika Estate Vineyard, 75 Waimata Valley Rd, Gisborne
When: 17 February 2011 to 20 February 2011

The 2009 festival in Tauranga attracted some 50,000 spectators over the three days and the expectation for Festival 2011 is to double those figures.

In the year leading up to the Festival, more than 100 teams will compete at thirteen regional competitions (including one in Australia) to qualify to be at the Festival.

This year Tu Te Maungaroa won the Wellington Regional Finals and will be heading to Gisborne to have another crack at the title.
