Our People

Kia Tu Pakari, Kia Tu Māia – Stand Tall, Stand Proud

Our young leaders

Our young leaders: Ripeka Hori, Jamahl Lam Sheung and Rahera Davies

We run education, sports, fitness and performing arts programmes for youth in our community. The Trust is based on a simple philosophy: to provide opportunities for rangatahi from families in our local area to participate and succeed to their full potential. Te Hua Rangatahi simply means "Nurturing our Youth". We’re all about getting our kids to do the best they can in the things they want to do.

Te Hua Rangatahi Trust was formally established as a charitable trust in October 2006. Our programmes are targeted at kids who might not have all the opportunities that others might have and we like to include everyone that we can.

Te Rau Taiohi - a gathering of youth - is a programme that was established because of young, potential leaders who wanted to form a roopu to rekindle ties and exercise all that relates to kapa haka: whanaungatanga, whakapono, taha wairua, tikanga, waiata and, of course, aroha. The results over the past four years indicate that the roopu is having a positive impact on whānau. Many parents have rekindled their support/involvement and are looking forward to the many opportunities and future challenges for our rangatahi.

All of our programmes are made possible through the qualified and skilled people who give their time to us voluntarily.

A high percentage of the families in the MidValley region are Māori and while the Trust’s performing arts programmes are based in tikanga Māori, our other programmes aren't and we warmly welcome Pākehā and Pacific peoples.
